Graft Group meetings are every Tuesday and every second Saturday at 1.30pm. These meetings are more of a ‘knit-n-natter’ afternoon with as much chat as there is craft work! The social aspect of our group is just as important as the crafts we produce. Ladies are free to work on their own project or take part in a group one, but as a church group we are keen to support local charities.
As examples of the kind of work we have done and projects we have supported: many blankets have been knitted and given to local day care centres, care homes and maternity units. Single size blankets have been sent to Malawi through other charities. Hats have been sent to the Sailors Society, hospital baby units, our troops on active service overseas and to the homeless through the City Mission. Fun hats have been knitted and sold to raise money for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. Poppies have been knitted and the proceeds from sales given to Erskine and Poppy Scotland.
As you can see with these examples above, we have helped many charities over the years and our hope is to continue in this with the gifts and willingness of our members. Our work is intended to benefit our community. Knitted poppies and wreaths have been laid out in the memorial garden by Milngavie in Bloom, and we work to provide decorations for the Christmas Tree Festival. We are also fund raising towards the refurbishment of our church.
The Ladies Lunch Group meets every Tuesday at 12.30pm before the Craft Group meeting. This is a place where ladies sit down to a set table with company rather than alone at home. These lunchtime meetings have proved to be very popular but don’t forget to bring a sandwich. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.
Our group is open to all ladies – you do not need to be a member of the church. So why not join us for a cup of tea and a blether as well as some knitting or crochet. You can be assured of a warm welcome and our hope is that you will soon feel you belong to our group.
